A floating bar in the Caribbean Sea is looking for a bartender who will “pull pints in one of the most Instagrammable drinking spots in the world,” according to some media reports.
According to an ad created by UK travel company Virgin Holidays, the bar owner Floyd Forbes will be taking his first break this summer, having being behind the bar for almost 18 years, and needs someone to fill in for him for one week.
The role is open to UK residents with bar experience, and within the one-week period, the successful applicant will be pouring pints and mixing cocktails amid turquoise waters at Floyd’s Pelican Bar.
The successful applicant must be willing to commute to work by boat or paddle board, manage the music playlist to ensure chilled beats are playing all the time, and also be expected to throw occasional fish to the resident pelicans who gave the bar its name.
The winner will also be expected to welcome passing boats looking for a refreshment with a smile, and be eager to chat to locals and tourists alike and get to know them over a cool bottle of local beer.
The successful candidate will receive a pair of return economy Virgin Atlantic flights to Jamaica, sevel night’s accommodation, £1,000 ($1,150) spending money and a trial shift at the bar.
Floyd’s Pelican Bar is a wooden shack bar located off the coast of Jamaica and is only accessible by boat. The bar was first built in 2001, after the owner, Floyd Forbes, dreamed about opening a bar rising over the ocean, where he could hang out with his friends.
Although the original bar got destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, it was rebuilt with the help of the locals. The bar is dubbed one of the coolest watering holes in the world, and is a favourite with locals and travellers.
